Privacy Policy for Deep Research iOS Application

Effective Date: march 2025

 1. Introduction

Welcome to Deep Research! We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Deep Research (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and safeguards your information when you use our iOS application (the “App”).

By using our App, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Please read this policy carefully.

2. Information We Collect

We strive to collect as little personal information as possible. The information we may collect is:

  • Content You Submit: Information you input, upload, or create within the App related to your research. This may include research data, notes, analyses, queries, and feedback you provide directly within the App.

    • Why this cannot be completely removed: For an application called “Deep Research,” the core functionality inherently involves users inputting and managing research-related content. Without collecting and storing this content, the App would be functionally useless. However, we emphasize that you control what content you submit.

  • Usage Information (Limited): We collect minimal data about how you use the App to ensure it functions correctly and to improve it. This may include:

    • App Performance Data: Information about crashes, errors, and technical issues to help us fix problems and improve stability.

      • Why this is difficult to remove entirely: Collecting basic app performance data is crucial for developers to identify and fix bugs. Without this, we cannot ensure the App works reliably. This data is typically anonymized and aggregated, meaning it’s not directly linked to you personally.

    • Anonymized Usage Statistics: Aggregated and anonymized data about feature usage to understand how users generally interact with the App and guide improvements. Examples might include: How often certain tools are used, but not who uses them or for what specific research.

      • Why this is difficult to completely remove if you want to improve the App based on user behavior: Without any usage statistics, it’s very difficult to understand if features are useful, if users are struggling with certain aspects of the app, or where improvements are needed. Anonymization and aggregation are key here to protect individual privacy while still getting valuable insights.

We do not collect the following unless explicitly stated and with your consent within a specific feature (and we aim to avoid these if possible):

  • Personal Account Information (Name, Email, Username, Password): We aim to make the App functional without requiring user accounts. If account functionality is absolutely necessary for a specific feature in the future (e.g., cloud sync – not currently implied), we will explicitly state this, explain why, and minimize the required information. Currently, accounts are not required.

  • Profile Information (Professional Background, Interests, Affiliations, Profile Picture): We do not collect profile information.

  • Communication Information: We do not collect data on communications between users because the App, as described, does not include communication features.

  • Payment Information: If the App is free, we do not collect payment information. If paid features are introduced in the future, payment processing will be handled by the App Store, and we will not directly collect or store your payment details.

  • Survey and Feedback Information: While we may provide channels for optional feedback (e.g., through the App Store or a separate contact email), we do not automatically collect survey or feedback information within the core App functionality. Any feedback submissions would be considered voluntary and subject to the terms outlined when you submit it.

  • Log Data (Detailed IP Address, Browser Type, Pages Visited, etc.): For an iOS app, “browser type” and “pages visited” are irrelevant. We minimize log data. We may, for technical troubleshooting, temporarily log very basic information like device type and app version in crash reports, but aim to avoid even this if possible and keep it anonymized.

  • Device Information (Detailed Device Specs): We collect minimal device information, primarily for ensuring app compatibility and debugging (e.g., device model, OS version for crash analysis). We do not collect detailed hardware specifications or unique device identifiers for tracking purposes.

  • Cookies and Similar Technologies: Native iOS apps generally don’t use browser cookies. We aim to avoid using tracking technologies within the app. If we use local storage for app settings, this is strictly for functional purposes within the app itself and not for tracking across apps or websites.

  • Analytics Data (Detailed User Tracking): We aim to minimize or avoid detailed third-party analytics that track individual user behavior. If we use analytics at all (e.g., App Store Connect Analytics), it will be primarily for aggregated, anonymized data to understand general usage patterns and app performance, not for individual user tracking.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the limited information we collect to:

  • Provide and Maintain the App: To operate the App, ensure it functions correctly, and provide you with the core research functionalities.

  • Improve and Develop our App: To analyze aggregated and anonymized usage patterns and app performance data to identify areas for improvement and develop new features.

  • Technical Support: To diagnose and fix technical issues and provide support.

We do not use your information for:

  • Personalization: We do not personalize content or features based on individual user data beyond what is inherent in your own research content within the app.

  • Marketing and Promotions: We do not use your information for marketing or promotional purposes.

  • Advertising: The App is not ad-supported, and we do not use your information for advertising.

  • Profiling: We do not create user profiles for any purpose.

4. Sharing and Disclosure of Your Information

We are committed to keeping your information private. We will only share your information in very limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers (Extremely Limited – and ideally none): Ideally, we aim to operate the App without reliance on external service providers that require sharing user data. If, in the future, we must use essential service providers (e.g., for crash reporting), we will choose providers with strong privacy policies and minimize the data shared. We will update this policy if such providers become necessary.

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request.

  • Protection of Rights and Safety: We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety, or the rights, property, or safety of others. This would be in extremely rare and critical situations (e.g., illegal activity).

  • Business Transfers: In the unlikely event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred. We will notify you in such an event and provide choices regarding your data.

  • Aggregated and Anonymized Data: We may share aggregated and anonymized usage statistics with third parties for research, analysis, or public information purposes. This data will not identify you personally.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or any other purposes.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information you submit within the App. This includes:

  • Data Encryption (Where applicable within the App): We may use encryption to protect sensitive research data stored within the App on your device.

  • Secure Development Practices: We follow secure coding practices to minimize vulnerabilities.

  • Limited Data Collection: Our primary security measure is to collect as little personal data as possible in the first place.

Important Note: While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is completely secure. Use strong device passwords and be mindful of the sensitivity of the research data you store on your device.

6. Data Retention

Your research content is primarily stored locally on your device. We do not centrally store your research data unless explicitly stated for a specific feature (e.g., if cloud sync is added in the future, with your explicit consent).

  • Locally Stored Data: You control the data stored within the App on your device. You can delete research content from within the App at any time.

  • App Performance Data & Anonymized Statistics: App performance data and anonymized usage statistics (if collected) are typically retained for a limited period for troubleshooting and analysis, and then deleted or further anonymized.

7. Your Rights Regarding Your Information

Because we collect minimal personal information, your rights are primarily focused on the data you directly create and store within the App:

  • Access and Correction: You can access and modify the research content you create within the App at any time.

  • Deletion: You can delete research content from within the App at any time.

  • Data Portability: You can export your research content from the App (if export features are provided) to use it elsewhere.

If you have any questions about your data, please contact us using the contact information in Section 9.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our App is not specifically targeted at children under the age of [Specify Age, e.g., 13 or 16], but may be used by individuals of all ages for research purposes. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
